Student in the Spotlight: Ivana Stoiljkovic

“My coordinator Francisca Medina Pappermann gives me challenging assignments, not the typical internship chores like getting coffee. She actually gets me coffee sometimes!”

My name is Ivana Stoiljkovic, I am from Paris, France, I am 22 years old and I am currently doing a bachelors degree in Administration and Business Management at the Université Paris-Est Créteil (UPEC). My specialisation is globalisation and management of SME’s, Small and Medium sized companies.

I chose this course because I want to help SME’s to become more competitive and more sustainable. What I also like about this course is the fact that it is internationally oriented. Therefore I had to choose an internship abroad. For me it was logical to choose for The Netherlands, because I have family that lives here.

During the period of my internship I live with my cousin in the village of Drachten. My cousin also helped me to find a company to do my internship at. She knew Wetsus and was aware of the fact that I was looking for an internship in which sustainability is an important theme. So I sent an e-mail to Wetsus, but they only had places available for students doing a water technology related course. So Wetsus forwarded my e-mail to the CEW and they had just the perfect assignment: assistant project manager in the VIDA Project. VIDA stands for Value-added Innovation in fooD chAins. Within this project, a European consortium, led by the CEW, is realising a dozen innovative, large-scale demonstration projects in Europe. The project represents an opportunity for hundreds of SME companies to accelerate their innovations in the market with large manufacturers and an opportunity for those manufacturers to accelerate future-proofing. So all elements that I like so much are in there.

What I really like about doing an internship at CEW, is that you get a chance to actually do the real job. My coordinator Francisca Medina Pappermann gives me challenging assignments, not the typical internship chores like getting coffee. She actually gets me coffee sometimes! Besides they regularly organise nice activities for team building.

The Netherlands, in particular Drachten, is a good place to live. The people are very nice and helpful and the streets and busses are clean and neat. Quite a difference with France unfortunately. My internship ends in August and I will start my Master at UPEC in September. An internship at CEW I totally recommend!
