My name is Demi Polhaupessij, I am 25 years old and I come from Malden, just below Nijmegen. I study Industrial Engineering at Avans University of Applied Sciences in Den Bosch. I chose this because it is a very broad education that you can use in many different places. In addition, I like helping companies with process improvement, something you can fully learn here.
I obtained my internship at CEW with a call on LinkedIn. Via via, this ended up at CEW, where they were looking for a student of Industrial Engineering at the time. As a graduation assignment, I map out the process surrounding CEW projects and investigate where process optimization is possible. On the one hand I look at the planning, or how do you match student, researcher and projects. On the other hand, I focus on project management, in other words how do you gain a better understanding of the hours spent, materials, etc.
The CEW is in a beautiful building and the atmosphere is good. For an industrial engineering student, CEW is an atypical organization, because it is a knowledge institute, while most students in my studies end up in a production environment. I like this graduation place because it is a nice challenge and a great way to get to know a different kind of organization. The most important new insight that I have gained so far is that it is good to speak to all disciplines within an organization, in order to map the subject you are investigating as broadly as possible.
In connection with this internship, I rented a fully furnished room for six months in Markt058 in Leeuwarden, a student housing complex with 500 residences in the former Aegon building. I am having a good time here, everything I need is close by.
What I’m going to do next I don’t know for sure yet, maybe I’m going to do a master’s, Maybe a job comes along that I like. Doing an internship at CEW is definitely a must for me. The student is really paramount here and you get plenty of room to develop yourself.
